This month our program is
indeed at the heart of IONS. Not only do we have IONS staff here in Seattle
presenting programs with us, our other related programs feature information
about IONS at the forefront of research into science, consciousness, spirituality,
healing to advance global transformation. We have itemized our calendar and
news below this short list of events (the descriptions follow).

will have a special visit by Marilyn Schlitz, PhD, IONS VP for Research and
Education and the IONS staff, an IONS community awareness evening (details
below). We are pleased to host this evening with Marilyn and staff on the

developments in the strategic vision of IONS, something IONS has been very busy

3) 3/21 IONS/ BASTYR: EXPLORING THE SCIENCE OF INTUITION &
CONSCIOUSNESS: ENHANCING HEALING IN THE MEDICAL ENVIRONMENT
And 3/21 Marilyn keynotes at
the all day event “Exploring the Science of Intuition and Consciousness:
Enhancing Healing in the Medical Environment” on 3/21 at the Washington Trade
and Convention Center. IONS is a host of this
innovative gathering in the field of medicine. At the event there is time set
aside to meet the sponsors and presenters. There will be presentations on
fields such as intuition, consciousness, healing, and near death. And the fee

Description: Dr. Edgar Mitchell is the founder
of IONS. At the IONS 2003
Conference, we celebrated IONS 30th Anniversary. It was
an awesome party, full of reminiscence with pioneers like Edgar Mitchell, Jean
Houston, Michael and Justine Toms and others.
This video of a plenary session features a
summary update from Dr. Edgar Mitchell on developments in the field of Quantum
Physics. We will watch this plenary which stimulates much food for thought. We
will then, as a group, discuss these important concepts and their implications.
Dr. Mitchell reviews what objective reality is
in contrast to our individual experience of personal reality and worldview.
Through science we are in a search for objective truth. We need a new myth for
our civilization and we are in need of creating new stories for ourselves
individually. If we want to understand the human condition we must first
understand the universe. If we want to learn about the universe, we must learn
about ourselves. Current developments in science help us understand truth.
Science can now help us understand the self in a new way.
Dr. Mitchell equates truth with knowledge. We
exist in a self organizing, participatory, creating, learning, information exchange system. Our evolution of science and
consciousness does not seem complete without understanding matter and energy in
relation to the self.
Through quantum physics, we have discovered an
information mechanism that supports knowledge of the self at the sub-atomic
level. The concept of non locality is an important element in defining truth.
Our new myth is the search for this truth. It is a better answer for the
question of truth than we had in the past. Dr. Mitchell succinctly describes
the new directions and hope in science.

Description: A Question of Naming: Experiences
of Life after Death
Why do more than 50% of people who are bereaved
experience contact with the dead? If you know someone so intimately that you
can read his or her thoughts, how is that connection altered if the person
dies? Is it possible or healthy to continue a relationship with someone who has
died and if so, how? Rondi Lightmark,
M.A., will share her thoughts and research on this
provocative topic in an upcoming IONS presentation at
the Vashon library. Part of her presentation will include a video excerpt from
the 2000 HBO show titled “Life Afterlife.”
Rondi is a freelance writer
and counselor who during the past 12 years nursed her husband, mother. and two friends while they were dying of cancer. Her
profound experiences of contact after they died led her to research grief,
death and dying and to develop a counseling practice that offers her own unique
approach to healing from loss (www.healgrief.com).
Some of her published work includes an article titled “Healing Grief in Your
Body,” for Body & Soul magazine (2002), essays in “When a Lifemate Dies: Stories of Love, Loss, and Healing” (1997,
Fairview Press), an article"Death as a Mentor
for Life" for the online International Journal of Healing and Caring and
an essay with Dr. Bill Benda on animals and healing
for the 2005 IONS book “Consciousness and Healing:
Integral Approaches to Mind-Body Medicine.” She is also the co-author with
April Frost of “Beyond Obedience: Training with Awareness for You and Your Dog
(Harmony, 1998).” Rondi moved to Vashon from the East
coast in 2004.
