Description:  At the September 10 Program, we showed and discussed the DVD of Andrew Harvey’s IONS 2007 Conference Plenary Session on Sacred Activism: The Power of Love and Wisdom in Action.  Harvey’s thesis is that when a profound and grounded mystical vision is married to a practical and pragmatic drive to transform all existing economic and political institutions, a tremendous holy force—the power of wisdom and love in action—is born. It is a force that can unleash, even in the middle of growing catastrophe, an unstoppable steady energy of hope and compassion.  A compelling take-away question from this presentation was “What gives us a sense of urgency that compels us to take personal, passionate action in service to the common good?”

We will explore this compelling question at the October 8 Program focusing on Green October and related social activism issues and opportunities.  Our emphasis is on individual and personal action rather than organizational/social network action.  We will hold a fishbowl conversation with our guest-participants followed by community conversation.
