Description: Video from 2003 IONS Conference Breakout: Joseph Chilton Pearce (author of The Crack in the Cosmic Egg and others) powerfully describes the hardwiring of the brain and its relationship to the heart in whole person development. Citing research, he presents a case for the new imperative for our culture. What is transcendence? What could transcendence have to do with curving the roots of violence? How does this relate to the development of the brain and to the progress of human evolution?

Indigenous cultures for years have known of the importance of biological nurturance from conception onward in the development of whole person. They have known of the importance of a mother's emotional state to the development of the child, starting right at embryo. Pearce says, "The mother's emotional state during pregnancy determines the quality, nature, character, capacity, and even size of her infant's neural system."

In this video, Pearce cites research which supports the need for entrainment of various neural systems (thought, feeling, action, relationship, emotional control) offering evidence for the need for biological and neural re-patterning through behavioral change. He says we need to transcend i.e., learn how to shift into a unified state of entrainment which integrates brain and heart neurocircuitry as fundamental to the evolution of the brain and humanity.

Moving toward valuing a unified state of emotional security and love is a way to influence not only personal well-being and the development of the whole person but to create a resultant widespread shift in consciousness within the dominant culture. Given this research, he shows us how a concerted effort to advance human evolution through brain changes is necessary. He says this can come about by simply caring for each other in a context of wholeness, love, and inter-relationship from a unified state of mind/body.

This 1.5 hour video discusses the impact the shift toward this value of wholeness will have on the individual body/mind connection and on collective consciousness, moving away from a culture of violence to one that embraces synergy and respects human relationship.
